In July I attended the first Chefs Backstage dinner at Sinema, and let me just say — it was awesome!! Going in, I didn’t really know what to expect, and it ended up being one of the best and most enjoyable meals I’ve had all year. Grab a friend or your significant other and join in the fun for the second installment of the series this Thursday, August 17th as chefs Pablo Cesares of Cochon Butcher and Bryan Lee Weaver of Butcher & Bee join chef Kyle Patterson of Sinema to serve a Mediterranean inspired meal.
The intimate dinner will take place at a long table in Sinema’s private dining room, with cocktails starting at 6:30 pm, then the seated dinner at 7 pm. Take a gander at the full menu here.
Epicurean Eclipse at Wedge Oak Farm
Monday, August 21st, 2017
11 am – 2:30 pm (Eclipse expected to begin around 1:28 pm)
Wedge Oak Farm
3964 Old Murfreesboro Road West
Lebanon, TN 37090
Cost: $75/person
In case you haven’t heard, on August 21st, we’ll experience a total solar eclipse here in the United States for the first time in 99 years. Nashville just happens to be the largest U.S. city in the eclipse’s path, so naturally we need to have a major viewing party!
The Strategic Hospitality folks are doing it up in a style I can’t refuse with their Epicurean Eclipse at Wedge Oak Farm. My plan to work that day and just pop outside for a few minutes to see the eclipse was thrown out the window the minute I heard about this family style lunch being served by some of our city’s most talented chefs + beverages by Matt Tocco, cocktail slinger extraordinaire.
Participating chefs:
- Trevor Moran (Formerly of The Catbird Seat)
- Josh Habiger (Bastion)
- Brian Baxter (Bastion)
- Julia Sullivan (Henrietta Red)
- Caitlyn Jarvis (Henrietta Red)
- Nick Hertel (Merchants)

Total Eclipse of the Tart Solar Eclipse Party
Monday, August 21st, 2017
11 am – 10 pm (Full eclipse expected at 1:27 pm)
Tailgate Brewery
7300 Charlotte Pike
Nashville, TN 37209
Cost: FREE, open to the public & all ages!
Now that it has been announced that Metro schools will be closed on the 21st, those looking for something to do for the whole family should definitely think about heading out to Tailgate Brewery. They have a giant outdoor area that could likely be one of the best best views of the eclipse in the city! Free of charge to get in, and you can grab some pizza and craft beer and settle in for the show. They’ll have solar eclipse glasses available for sale while supplies last, so get there early.
In honor of this momentous occasion, Tailgate even created a special edition beer for the event, the Total Eclipse of the Tart. The apricot kettle sour (4.6% ABV) was brewed and canned at TailGate’s headquarters, and will soon be available in limited quantities on draft and in 16oz cans at both TailGate locations and select craft beer retailers in Nashville.
For more information on the party, visit the Facebook event page.

6 – 8 pm
The George Jones (first floor)
128 2nd Ave N
Nashville, TN 37201
Cost: $25
Note: this is a 21+ event.
If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ve likely seen how much fun I’ve had at Bartender Bashes in the past, and this year is sure to be the same, as I’m super excited to judge the competition for the SEVENTH time! Yep, I’ve been on judging duty since 2009, only missing out in 2011 because of a certain someone, and then last year because I had to be in Bentonville, Arkansas for work. (ugh)
This year, twelve of Nashville’s local mixologists will vye for Best Craft Cocktail featuring Woodford Reserve Double Oaked and Cooper’s Craft. Bourbon heaven, people.
This year’s participating restaurants include:
Acme Feed & Seed
American Craft Tavern
Barlines
Cork and Cow
The George Jones
Gray’s on Main
Hemingway’s Bar & Hideaway
Kayne Prime
LA Jackson
Moto
Sinema
Union Station Hotel
Even before I began judging the competition in 2009, I loved attending this event and always encourage everyone I know that enjoys cocktails (and really, who doesn’t?) to buy their tickets early because the event will sell out in advance. So don’t wait, purchase your tickets now! (and come say hello to me there!)
