New Nashville Restaurants
The Southern Steak & Oyster
150 3rd Ave S
Nashville, TN 37201
(in the Pinnacle building)
The Southern softly “opened” on Friday, purposely closed on Saturday and Sunday for some final touches, and is now open today! Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner every day of the week (brunch on Saturdays & Sundays), it is a welcome addition to the downtown dining scene.
Owned by the same group that’s behind The Loveless Cafe, Saffire, and The Farm House at Fontanel, I have high hopes for this place. Saffire has been one of my favorite restaurants in Franklin for many years, and rumor is that The Southern is similar, but with even more offerings!
I’m already making plans to visit there for lunch this week, so fingers crossed it’s as fantastic as I’m hoping it will be. Any of you just happen to get a sneak peek on Friday when it was open? If so, I would love to hear what you ate, especially if it’s something I need to order!
Visit their website to see menus, but be sure to “like” them on Facebook to see daily specials, photos and more!
Urban Grub
2506 12th Ave S
Nashville, TN 37204
I mentioned this new restaurant back in the fall. Originally slated to open around Christmas-time, then pushed to February, it looks like perhaps this Tuesday will actually be the big day! It seems there was a private sneak preview last week, so hopefully all went smoothly and this week truly will be the grand opening. I’m sure they are as ready to get those doors open as we are to have them open!
With Latin dishes, Southern food, seafood and charcuterie mentioned as menu items, it seems like an unusual mix, but with Deb Paquette helping to develop the menu, I have no doubt that our palates will be delighted!
For more information, see their website and Facebook page.

Pomodoro East
701 Porter Rd
Nashville, TN 37206
615- 873-4978
Apparently this restaurant opened in the last couple of weeks. Unfortunately, I’ve had to spend several minutes of my precious time trying to figure that out. With no website, no Facebook page and no Yelp listing for them, I’ve gathered what little info I can from various sources.
I have to say, I find it really annoying when a restaurant doesn’t have a website or at the very least, a Facebook account. How hard could it be to set up a page that has address, hours, and phone numbers listed?
If you have dined at Pomodoro East, please chime in with your thoughts. It’ll likely be a while before I make my way over to East Nashville to check it out. Want to know what’s on the menu? See this Bites blog post for a photo of it.
Lockeland Table
1520 Woodland Street
Nashville, TN 37206
Whereas I’m annoyed with the lack of online presence for one East Nashville establishment, I’m thrilled to find that Lockeland Table, a yet-to-be opened restaurant being brought to us by Chef Hal Holden-Bache, has a great online presence already.
Although their website isn’t yet functional, they do have a Facebook page and Twitter account. They’re even using Facebook to get customer input on the bar stools being put in the restaurant! I love this. (other restaurants, take note!)
Etch
303 Demonbreun St
Nashville, TN 37201
(in the Encore)
Previously, I reported that the name of this new Deb Paquette helmed restaurant was Echo. Well, in the days since I wrote that blog post, the name changed to Etch. Also, originally slated to open in March, owner Doug Hogrefe reports that it’s now looking more like a July open date.
As you may have noted from the Urban Grub description above, Deb has been keeping busy by helping out there for a while before she begins working full time on Etch.
Located downtown on the ground floor of the Encore condominium building, Etch is within a hop, skip & a jump of the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Symphony Center, the arena and the new convention center. I have a feeling this is going to become one of the hottest spots in town this summer!
There is a website, but as of now, it just directs to their Facebook and Twitter accounts, so follow those to keep up with the progress.
I love that I can always count on you to bring us foodies the latest in restaurant news! These are all new to me & I can’t wait to try them all!
So that Pomodoro East place. I got invited to “like” their Facebook page a couple of weeks ago. The person that invited me is a sophomore at MTSU that I used to babysit back in Virginia! She had posted it on her own page too saying she was helping out with social media and all her friends should like it. There’s no info on the Facebook page and only 18 people like it, but I keep meaning to ask her about how/why she’s involved, hah!
Anyway, end of random anecdote.
Interesting! I couldn’t even find the FB page when I did a search, but FB can be wonky like that sometimes.
Ooh, Etch. That is one I’m looking forward to…never being able to go to except on special occasions. However, I’m happy to have a replacement for my previous go-to, special occasion restaurant, Zola. :) Zola had such a nice vibe; I’m hopeful that Etch will be comfortable + sophisticated at the same time in a similar manner.
I’m most excited about that one too. I’ll probably mourn the loss of Zola for the rest of my life…
I’m also annoyed by lack of online presence. It’s really not that hard. Doesn’t have to be fancy, just the basics, but SOMETHING.
Great post!! I’ve been wondering what the new restaurant on 12 South was called… Can’t wait to try it.
Walked by the future location of Etch last week. Looks like all the underground plumbing is in, there’s still a long way to go, but I am looking forward to it.
Any info on Silo?
Oh, I forgot about Silo! No, no details on it, but I’ll investigate ;-)
I’m really curious about Lockland Table-that address is in a strictly residential area with extremely limited street parking. Totally driving by this address on my way home to view the upcoming spot.
Hey Lacey,
Cara, the co-owner of Lockeland Table, left a comment below yours regarding the parking situation, so be sure to read it!
Beth
I’ve been eagerly anticipating the opening of Urban Grub for months now. Since it is within walking distance of home, I’m definitely practicing my “please be good” mantra before sitting down for a first meal there.
Great roundup of new restaurant news!
Hey Beth. Looking forward to seeing you this week at The Southern. Today was our official first day of being open and lunch was pretty full. I was impressed.
A good friend of mines boyfriend is the bar manager at Pomodoro East. I went last Monday which was their “grand opening”. I believe that they are doing a soft opening just to get in the swing of things aka working the kinks out. We had already eaten but we still ordered a few apps. We had the gnocchi which was made (I BELIEVE) out of egg and cheese and the antipasto platter which also was delicious. I am a sucker for anything authentic Italian and I was satisfied because they have a Montepulciano d’Abruzzo on the menu. Its worth checking out.
See you later this week!!!!
Beth: Thank you for helping spread the word about Lockeland Table. And, we appreciate the comments too. We also appreciate your interest and that of your followers in Nashville.
We are committed members of our local community. We live here. We are raising our families here. Our restaurant will reflect of our desires and commitment to East Nashville by providing great tasting, quality offerings from local and regional sources.
We have a solution to what may seem to some like a potential parking problem. Our solution will cause no harm to immediate neighbors and we will make it sure it causes no disruption to the rhythm and fabric of the neighborhood. Of course, our patrons will have ample options.
Many thanks to you!
P.S. We are keeping the “Boutique Coiffure” murals on the side of the building because it is such a legacy feature in the community. We got the phone number too.

Hi Cara,
Thanks you SO much for the information, and for addressing the comment about parking. I am really looking forward to your opening and hoping that all goes smoothly for you as it approaches!
Beth
Makes me want to live in Nashville, or at least visit there. Love a new restaurant anytime!
We checked out Urban Grub for a drink & app last night…it was packed. Drink prices were good ($8) and overall pricing and food seemed good for non-special occasions. (Oysters $1/piece, flatbreads, tacos, etc.) The space is huge and pretty with several patio areas, however as a resident of 12th South it does seem a bit large for 12th South and I’m not sure how the parking situation is going to be. They do offer valet. I guess that’s the price you pay for living in a growing desirable neighborhood. We were in and out quickly on our way to a concert so I wasn’t there long enough to make any strong comments either way. Hoping to do a quick drop in at The Southern tonight!
Hey there Beth. I just got back from the Southern. I’d definitely recommend it. As you might imagine, there are a few growing pains with the staff, etc, but the food was on-point. Got a Oyster Po-Boy that was perfect. Oysters were fried just right (enough to make them a tad firm, but not rubbery, a delicate balance). The breading was seasoned well and the sauce complimented it but didn’t overwhelm it. I was a little disappointed in the mac and cheese (yeah, I ordered a po boy with mac, but I wanted to give it a try). Beint “The Southern” I expected it to be a little more traditional southern style mac, but it was rigatoni with a 3 white cheese mix on top. Again, it was good, but not what I expected.
I really liked the atmosphere. Very cool dining area and the bar seemed great. I liked how open everything was and there was lots of natural light. I definitely could see stopping by there after work for a half dozen oysters and a couple of beers.
Pomodoro East is great! We went Thursday evening (we did have a short wait, which was a little annoying), but our food was delicious! I had the Ceasar salad and the Pappardelle pasta with rabbit and a white wine butter sauce. We also had the tortellini salad and the braised beef with mashed potatoes. All was wonderful and very fresh! The atmosphere was nice, but not stuffy and our wines were delicious. Great $7 per glass options. We will definitely go back! They do need a web presence!!
