Eat Write Retreat – The Products
Note: All of the photos in this post were taken with my droid phone using the picplz app
One of the best parts of a food blogging conference is discovering new products. Some of them show up in the swag bag, others via a raffle, and many are simply offered as part of a meal or snack.
At Eat Write Retreat, every attendee went home with more than a few goodies, including a higher ticket raffle item like a toaster, knife set, panini press, or mandolin. My big score was not any of those, but instead something that was perfectly suited for me.
I was the lucky recipient of the OXO 7 piece barware set, steel cocktail shaker, and muddler seen above. I seriously couldn’t have been more thrilled! This gift not only tickled me, but it made my husband pretty happy too.
When we were given Lifeway Frozen Kefir as a mid-morning snack, I hesitantly took a small taste. Having never tried any Lifeway product or any kefir before, I had no idea if I’d like it or not. Wow. Let’s just say the bites got bigger and it was gone in a flash.
The store locator on the website shows that Kroger, Whole Foods, Harris Teeter and Publix all carry their products, but I’m not sure if they all have the frozen kefir. I checked the Publix near my office and they didn’t, but I’ll keep searching around town and let you know where I find it. (or if you’ve seen it, let me know!)
Lindsay Naturals Green Olives kept showing up on tables during various events throughout the weekend, and even when I wasn’t hungry, I was still popping them in my mouth. Mild, smooth and buttery with a hint of nuttiness, they’re not salty like many olives. I wasn’t surprised when I read online that they had been voted “favorite olive” by the Lindsay Olives employees. Rightly so.
I haven’t searched for them in the stores yet, but the website says they can be found in Tennessee at Publix, Costco and Wal-Mart. Hopefully I won’t have any trouble hunting them down, because I’m hoping to win some cash in their “Love This Recipe” contest!
Definitely the largest swag I brought home, this Calphalon 12″ griddle gave the TSA agent a chuckle when I took it through security at the airport. He said it was the funniest traveling companion he’d seen all day :-)
Not only did Calphalon give me this awesome gift, but they’re giving my followers something too! Between now and June 6th, readers of Eat. Drink. Smile. can receive 10% off their online purchase by following this link and using the promotional code: C95926*
Although Goo Goo Clusters were not a new product discovery for me (they were, after all, what got me to this conference in the first place), it was fun to see and hear others’ reactions to a candy I’ve been eating my entire life. To say they were well received would be a huge understatement. Each attendee received a 3-pack box in their swag bag, and one girl even admitted to me that she’d eaten her entire box within 24 hours!
So there you go, a few fun new products to be on the lookout for. As I promised before I left town, I’ve also got a little something for a few of you.
I’ll randomly choose 3 lucky winners to receive some Goo Goos! Two of you will get 3-pack boxes, and the other will receive a special tin filled to the brim with Goo Goos!

I love swag!! I know, isn’t it funny to hear people’s questions about stuff that you’ve practically grown up with? My husband, from MI, didn’t know about Goo-Goos either! His family is now hooked!
I follow you & Goo Goo Clusters on Twitter!
I “like” Eat.Drink.Smile. & Goo Goo Clusters on FB!
my mom always shipped goo goo clusters to friends living overseas when I was a kid. I haven’t tasted one in AGES! (and i pretty jealous of the caphalon swag)
I’ve heard so many people say that they’ve taken Goo Goos to their friends in other countries and they just flipped out over them. Love it!
I noticed Lindsay’s olives (and capers) at Publix yesterday and actually bought some. Their prices are very competitive. Haven’t tried them yet.
Incidentally, Goo Goo Clusters are what I take to friends when visiting (and Moon Pies). I don’t eat them myself, but my friends are always happy to get them!
Glad to know that the olives are at Publix. I really love those green ones….they could be dangerous in my house though because I could probably eat the entire can myself!
I don’t think I’ve ever eaten Goo Goo Clusters. I’ve heard of them, though!
I do so
I can definitively say your swag is better than my swag. EWR sounds like a great conference, will definitely have to consider attending next year.
Can I please have some Goo Goos, Lady Goo Goo? :)
I don’t know if this is helpful or not but I really think I saw something “kefir” at TJ’s. It was in the dairy section though, I didn’t go to the frozen isle.
The olives can def. be found at Costco, that’s what we keep on stock in our pantry! They are delicious and super plump
I’m already a follower on fb and don’t tweet.
I’m adding that bar set to my wedding registry right now! I wish I had seen this post before my grocery run. Those olives sound amazing!
Kefir is delicious – and I’ve never seen frozen kefir before. Must try!
P.S. am now following GooGoos on Twitter — was already following you!
This sounds like so much fun! Glad you had a great trip!
Wow sounds like you hit the jackpot! I love the griddle. It looks awesome! I like you grew up eating Goo Goos they are great and I can see why they were a big hit!!
I’ve never tried kefir but your review makes me want to! If I won I’d definitely send my winnings to my dad, a yankee who LOVES goo goos!
I’m now on the search for frozen kefir…maybe it would be good with googoo clusters?
Derek and I both DRINK Kefir, both plain and blueberry but haven’t tried the frozen. We buy it at Kroger in the organic refrigerated section…but I have learned that Kroger stores are stocked differently per region. Murray (which we frequently shop) has more organic choices than Hopkinsville and is in the Memphis region. We know the manager and the regional manager (from Memphis) as they are big hunters ;) so…maybe we can order some frozen Kefir…meanwhile our WFM list keeps growing.
I’ve seen the liquid kefir in several groceries here in Nashville, but had never tried it. If it’s as good as the frozen, I think I need to start drinking it!
The next time I’m coming to Cadiz, I’ll let you know and if there is anything you want me to bring you from Whole Foods I’ll do it! I really don’t mind at all. I always go on a shopping trip there for Camden before coming home anyway :-)
I’m intrigued by the kefir. I have no idea what it is but it sounds interesting. Now, I definitely know about goo-goos. I’ve loved them as long and I can remember and that’s a LONG time!
I had seen the drinkable kefir in stores before, but never tried it. The frozen is delicious, so I might have to give the liquid a shot too!
Goo Goo Clusters rock! Nothing makes me feel happier on a warm day than sitting outside and enjoying one… or two! :)
My favorite would be the Calphalon. I got my first Calphalon skillet over 15 years ago and it’s still going strong! Over the years I’ve added pots and pans and other pieces, and now exclusively cook with Calphalon. At first I was hesitant to spend $80 on cookware but now realize that if it lasts forever then it’s worth it!
As usual, your post made me laugh- and hungry! Now I want to try the Kefir and the Goo Goo clusters. I remember seeing them a million times over the years, but never really liked the marshmallow in any candy. However, thanks to your enthusiasm, I keep thinking I want to try the Clusters!!!
I can just see you going through security with your griddle. TOO funny!!!
PS- you know I already follow and like you and Goo Goo!!
I’m actually not always a huge fan of marshmallows or nuts in my chocolate but for some reason Goo Goos are an exception! If you like peanut butter you will LOVE the PB Goo Goo, which doesn’t have marshmallow. It’s so ridiculously good!
My family is originally from the South and Goo Goo Clusters were a common thing to them. I have not seen them since I was a kid. I would love to bite into that rich, marshmallowey and nutty goodness right now.
I went many years without eating one too because they were hard to find, but recently I’ve eaten MORE than enough to make up for those years!

I’ve never heard of frozen Kefir – how delicious! Awesome alternative to ice cream…
Awesome bar set! I’m mega jealous! Not gonna lie, wish I had scored some Goo Goos in my swag bag from Blogher! Looks like I better hope to win this giveaway.
Ooh I have those Calphalon pans — love! The slide one gets used for pancakes all. the. time.
Would love to try Goo Goo Clusters, and to share them with our Boston Food Finds’ followers. We’re now following Goo Goo Clusters on Twitter. Thanks for the lead!
