Generous Helpings and The Best Dessert
A few weeks from now, one of the best food tasting events in Nashville takes place. Generous Helpings, an annual fundraiser for Second Harvest Food Bank, features bite-size portions of appetizers, entrees, desserts from a variety of popular local eateries like Holland House, F. Scott’s, Sweet 16th Bakery, Table 3, tayst, Pied Piper Creamery, and Fido, just to name a few (see here for full list). It’s an event that I personally never miss, and recommend that you add it to your calendar as well.
What: Generous Helpings
When:
5:30 PM – 8:30 PM
Where: Nashville Farmers’ Market
900 Rosa Parks Boulevard
Nashville, TN 37208
Tickets are $40 in advance here, or $50 at the door. But since I like you all so much, I’m giving away a pair of tickets ($80 value) to a lucky reader!
Lately the question of “what’s the best dessert in Nashville?” has been popping up a lot, and sadly, I don’t really have an answer. A few years ago, my hands-down favorite dessert in a Nashville restaurant was Mirror’s banana bread pudding with caramel sauce and vanilla bean ice cream. Since it’s been gone, I’ve had a few stellar desserts here and there, but none that I go back for over and over again. So that’s where you come in. In order to win this pair of tickets I have up for grabs, all you have to do is leave me a comment telling me what you think the most amazing sweet treat in Nashville is!
~Contest Closed~
The Winner is: Lucky #13, Miranda Christy!
Tuesday, April 19th at 6 pm is when the contest ends, so be sure you have all your entries in by then. At that time I’ll update this post with the winner’s name, but I’ll also email directly and will need a response back within 48 hours, so please make sure you use a valid email address when entering. Good luck!

well, I hardly ever eat dessert, so not sure if this is one of the best, but the doughnut bread pudding at Burger Up is pretty damn good!

I really love the sopapilla cheesecake at Sambuca.
tweeted!
& liked on facebook! :)
The deconstructed apple pie from Flyte’s fall/winter menu was technically amazing, visually beautiful and amazingly tasty. Shortbread, apple, apple gelee, caramel, ice cream…
I love the Bananas Foster at Mad Platter! YUMMY!
The last dessert I had was at Tavern – S’mores, complete with a tiny campfire and all the fixings! Maybe not the best but it was fun.
Chocolate peanut butter pie at Capital Grille! yum!
And I already like Eat.Drink.Smile and Second Harvest on Facebook :)
Chocolate Elvis at Mad Platter!
I like both Eat.Drink.Smile and 2nd Harvest on FB
I have re-tweeted re: tix :)
I haven’t been in ages, but I will never forget a Grand Marnier creme brulee I had at Bound’ry. I wonder if they still have it.
But–quite frankly–the best thing I’ve had in the last year was the olive oil cake that Jennifer Justus made for our flood relief bake sale. Sure, I could make it, but then I’d REALLY know how fattening it is!
Love love the raspberry jam filled doughnuts at The Watermark and the tiramasu at Amerigo!
I like both eat.drink.smile and 2nd Harvest on FB!
definitely jenni’s salted caramel ice cream at hot&cold. the coconut macaroon at provence is a close second, though.
I like both eat.drink.smile and 2nd Harvest on FB!
I like the Red Velvet Cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory. There are layers of moist(not too cocoa-y) red velvet cake amongst layers of yummy cheesecake! To top it off, there’s a mound of white chocolate shavings…Just mouth-watering!
I liked Eat.Drink.Smile and Second Harvest Food Bank on Facebook.
My favorite dessert is the Sunken Pecan Pie Cheesecake at September’s Cafe. Amazing cheesecake that somehow has Pecan Pie right in the center. It’s such decadent treat that sometimes we go just for dessert (& we live 35 miles away)!
I’ve never been to September’s, but you’re right, that dessert alone sounds like it would be worth the drive! YUM!
I tweeted and I follow both on twitter.
And I already like both on Facebook.
Mayan Hot Chocolate at Cocoa Tree.
Last time I was at Germantown Cafe, I had a heavenly, buttery, maple-y apple crumble. I don’t know if it’s a regular menu item because I can’t find it on their website, but I aim to find out soon!
Following on twitter too!
Whoops – second comment: following on twitter too and re-tweeted.
i’m going to go with something non-traditional and say there is no better sweet treat to top off any meal or indulge a craving than the CUPCAKE COLLECTION! especially the sweet potato cupcake…yummm!
p.s. i tweeted too :D
a few months ago, i had vanilla creme brulee with almond shortbread + fresh fruit at watermark that was unbelievably delicious (+ i’m not even a big desserts person). the tres leches cake at rumba is another great one!

I love the deconstructed creme brulee at Miel. Sooo good!
Ooh, I’ve heard many good things about this dessert, so I’m glad you have reminded me that I need to get over there and try it!
Oh there are several but I think my favorite is the apple pie with caramel and brown butter ice cream at the restaurant at the Loews Vanderbilt Plaza. My husband and I both say that we would go eat there just for that pie!
I am not a big dessert eater usually, but I also like the butterscotch habanero bread pudding at Sunset Grill. This list has given me some other things to try next time I am some of these places.
I love the banana pudding at Cabana!
Became a fan oF Eat Drink Smile on FB! :)
The apple tart at Allium hits the spot every single time. Nothing too fancy, just perfect and old-fashioned and delicious!
The carrot cake from J. Alexander’s is fantastic! Its warm and gooey and oh sooooo good!
I tweeted and liked on FB
no way can i narrow it down to one. i LOVE dessert. i can’t go to Amerigo without getting their tiramisu. it’s special. and i adore Leland Riggins’ caramel fudge cake that’s served at Firefly Grille. and my favorite cake in town is from The Sweet Stash – their vanilla almond cupcakes are amazing, served at Farmers’ Market a few days a week. and the Fior di Latte gelato at Porta Via is divine. ok, i’ll stop. :)
Oh yes, I agree on that tiramisu and pretty much everything I’ve ever had by Leland Riggins has been divine!
tweet, tweet!
i like you, i really do! and second harvest, too!
Churros dipped in a rich, thick, Mexican hot chocolate at Mas Tacos! You also can’t go wrong with doughnuts from tph! I have to say the Belgian waffle truck is amazing too :)
about those donuts at tph….I don’t even like donuts, but my friend finally convinced me to try them and oh my! they are soooo ridiculously good!
