June 2017 Food and Drink Happenings
Atlanta Food & Wine Festival
Thursday, June 1st – Sunday, June 4th, 2017
Midtown Atlanta
Cost: Various pricing levels
Typically I stick to Nashville happenings in my monthly round ups, but every now and then there’s an event I feel compelled to mention that isn’t in the local area. The Atlanta Food & Wine Festival is definitely one of them. In the 6 years I’ve been attending, it just keeps getting better and better!
Once again I’ll be heading down to Atlanta for 4 days later this week for both work and play as I pull double duty as an ambassador for Goo Goo and as media. Be sure to follow along on Instagram to see all the fun live! And if any of you are at the festival this weekend, visit me at the Goo Goo table in the tasting tents to say hi!
Musictree Fest
Friday, June 2nd – Monday, June 5th, 2017
Manchester, TN
Cost: FREE
I’m quite sure you’re all familiar with that little music event that happens every June down in Manchester, TN, but you may not have heard of another festival in the days before Bonnaroo– Musictree! Sponsored by Bonnaroo, the family friendly event takes over Manchester’s historic downtown square with crafts, food and music.
You can expect over 20 bands and lots of food, including a BBQ competition with a pretty sweet prize: a vendor booth at Bonnaroo 2018 valued at $10,000! If you’re interested in competing, click here for full details and for more general information on the festival itself, visit the Musictree website.
Miss Martha’s Ice Cream Crankin’
Sunday, June 11th, 2017
3 – 5 pm
Front Lawn of First Presbyterian Church
4815 Franklin Pike
Nashville, TN 37220
Cost: $10 for adults in advance ($13 at the door)
$10 for children in advance ($10 at the door)
One of the sweetest family friendly activities of the summer is just around the corner — Miss Martha’s Ice Cream Crankin’!
While the nearly 3,000 attendees stroll the lawn tasting, judges will be hard at work picking winners for 3 categories: chocolate base, vanilla base, and “other.” The winner from each category then vies for the “best of show,” which will be produced next year into a new Purity ice cream flavor. Pretty cool, huh?
I’ve had the pleasure of judging this event in the past, and believe me, there are some delicious flavors being imagined up. For more information on the event, details on how to enter the contest, or to purchase tickets, click here.
FoodBank:Throwdown
Thursday, June 15th, 2017
6:30 – 9 pm
Martha O’Bryan Center
711 South 7th St
Nashville, TN 37201
Cost: $59/person in advance or $69/person at the door
This year, for the third time, I will again be judging a really fun cooking competition for a great cause, FoodBank:Throwdown for NextUP Martha O’Bryan.
Local chefs from Etc., Sinema, Two Ten Jack, Silo, The Farm House, Whiskey Kitchen, and Grilled Cheeserie will compete for the title of Foodbank Throwdown Champion by utilizing food typically donated to local food banks. No expensive gourmet ingredients here!
The creativity I’ve seen in the years past was impressive, so I can’t wait to see what this group comes up with. In 2015, Chef Trey Cioccia of The Farm House won with Spam Boudin Balls, and last year, Chef Aatul Jain, formerly of Chauhan Ale & Masala House, won with his Curry Scented Turkey Casserole.
