Girl in the Kitchen – Stephanie Izard
One of my very favorite seasons of Top Chef was Season 4, when Stephanie Izard took home the top prize. Since then, she opened a restaurant in Chicago called Girl & The Goat, was named one of the 10 Best New Chefs in America by Food & Wine magazine, and received a nod from James Beard.
Recently she was named the official chef of the 2nd annual CMT Artist of the Year event, where she will create a menu inspired by the culinary memories of CMT’s top five country music artists of the year –Taylor Swift, Kenny Chesney, Jason Aldean, Lady Antebellum and Brad Paisley.
And on top of all that, she’s written a cookbook which she’ll be signing here in Nashville next week!

my grandma making her famous cheddar mashed potatoes… every Christmas.
My favorite culinary memories involve cooking with my gramma, mom, auntie, & cousins, getting ready for holiday meals (especially the annual New Years party my gramma used to have!) Such happy memories :)

My grandmother’s roast beef and yorkshire pudding. We couldn’t get enough of that yorkshire pudding!
Of course I already like you on Facebook, lady!
I tweeted about this for you as well.
And finally – my favorite culinary memory: I grew up with a nanny who was essentially my second mother. Originally from Italy, she grew up in Argentina before settling in Texas where we crossed paths. Growing up, she treated me to her chicken milanesa when I was an especially good girl (being a picky eater, I wouldn’t touch her veal milanesa, so she altered the recipe for me). When I grew up, she taught me how to make it, but to this day I have never made that delicious, thin meat with parsley, lemon and light breading because it just wouldn’t be the same without her dining with me.

How fun! And I wish I still lived in Nashville so I could go meet Stephanie and get her to sign a copy of the book for me!
My favorite culinary memory: Baking dozens upon dozens of cookies with my mom, her two sisters and my sister the week of my wedding. My mom is from Western Pennsylvania, and her family has always participated in the cookie table tradition, where the bride’s family and friends bake hundreds of cookies for wedding guests to enjoy, along with the usual wedding cake. The week of my wedding, we were finishing up all the baking, which meant we were up until all hours of the night, drinking wine and laughing at some kitchen fails while sharing stories of the past. It was glorious, and that memory is one of my favorites because we had the best time.
i did both :)
looking forward to a yummy new book :)
Following on Facebook too!
Our Sunday morning family BIG breakfast.
My favorite memories in the kitchen involve my grandmothers. One in east TN and one in Springfield, TN. We were never alone at the table and there was never a meal that wasn’t from scratch. Even being just 150 miles apart, the cuisine was so different, yet equally delicious. Sawmill gravy, biscuits, chicken & dumplings, fried pies, fried chicken, grits, creamed corn with tomatoes and syrup & butter mashed with a fork on one side and pork BBQ, turnip greens, fried okra, corn bread & bundt cakes on the other. They inspired me in the kitchen and in life.

I was hoping to win a copy at FBF, but didn’t get chosen! Love Stephanie from Top Chef!
I loved when Stephanie won!! A favorite culinary memory is making press cookies with my mom for Christmas – she always dyed the dough green and pressed out the little Christmas trees through the piping tool.
Of course I already like you on Facebook! :)
I like you on FB and Tweeted as well, so all the prerequisite social networking is taken care of.
Favorite culinary memory? That one takes a little digging considering I like to eat, Alot ;) But I would have to say it was in my bachelor days when I lived off west end behind outback (as all of us have at one time or another, lots of apts back there). My friend and I had braved a raging storm to acquire ingredients to make our favorite Sunday night comfort food, Spaghetti with hot Italian sausage. Heading back from Teeter the streets look awfully dark and realize when we get back we have no power. Not to be outdone by mother nature or NES, we fired up the grill and cooked each ingredient piece by piece over the open flame. Nothing says love like flame boiled noodles. When the lights came back on near the end of our meal we turned them off, and enjoyed our Spaghetti and sauce with a bottle of cheap sangiovese, just like the pioneers. :)
My favorite memory is thanksgiving at my grandmother’s house growing up, watching her create a feast of wonderful food and then packing her house full of the entire family to enjoy it!
