I’m a little behind getting out my picks for this month’s food events, but hopefully you all still have some room on your calendar to fit in a few of these!
Up first is a very special dinner happening in just a couple of days. Savor Nashville is put together by Nashville Lifestyles magazine, and features some of Nashville’s very best chefs: Brian Lee Weaver of Butcher & Bee, Tony Galzin of Nicky’s Coal Fired, Margot McCormack of Margot Cafe, Nathan Duensing of Marsh House, and pastry chef Bethany Halliger of Goo Goo!
Your ticket price includes cocktail hour sips & nibbles, a five course dinner, wine pairings, tax, and gratuity. I’ve attended this dinner several times in the past and it’s well worth the money. BUT – it’s a total steal when you use the discount code WINE for 1/2 off that ticket price! Not kidding, you can have this incredible meal by some of Nashville’s best chefs for only $75. Only a few seats remain at this rate, so act fast!
First Course
Pickled shrimp salad with fennel, red onion, celery, and preserved lemon cocktail sauce
Margot McCormack, Margot Café & Bar
Second Course
Crispy snapper, eggplant, green curry, and crab
Nathan Duensing, Marsh House
Third Course
Ziti with braised rabbit, NCF pancetta, sorrel, and grana padano
Tony Galzin, Nicky’s Coal Fired
Fourth Course
Grilled flank steak over a spicy cucumber salad and peanuts
Bryan Weaver, Butcher & Bee
Fifth Course
Mocha cake, hazelnut buttercream, mocha mascarpone mousse, salted caramel sauce, and hazelnut florentine; paired with coffee from Frothy Monkey
Bethany Halliger, Goo Goo Shop
And this is just the seated courses. All of the chefs are also providing appetizers for the cocktail hour too!
Generous Helpings
Thursday, May 10th, 2018
6 – 9 pm
City Winery
609 Lafayette St
Nashville, TN 37203
Cost: $60/person
Just a couple of days after Savor Nashville, you’ll find me at City Winery for Generous Helpings, my favorite sampling event of the year!
Full disclosure: for the past three years, I’ve been volunteering on the planning committee for this event. As you guys know, between my demanding full time job, my family, and this blog (and all related activities), I don’t have a whole lot of extra hours in my week, so I hope it really tells you something that I choose to spend free time helping Second Harvest make this event a success. It truly is an incredible cause!
I’m thrilled with the lineup of restaurants we have participating this year, as we’ve added some new hot spots and some of my personal faves. We’ve got Butcher & Bee, Deacon’s New South, Old School Farm to Table, Kuchnia & Keller, Funk Seoul Brother, Sinema, Pastaria, Thai Esane, Vui’s, and my beloved Goo Goo Shop & Dessert Bar! And that’s only part of the list. Check out everyone on the Generous Helpings website and then purchase your tickets because this event WILL sell out!
Chocolate Classes at the Goo Goo Shop
Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays in May, various times
Goo Goo Shop & Dessert Bar
116 3rd Ave S
Nashville, TN 37201
Cost: $40 for Taste of Goo Goo; $75 for Secrets of Goo Goo (includes wine)
I’ve mentioned the new(ish) chocolate classes at the Goo Goo Shop a couple of times previously, but just want to put this reminder in front of you again! The classes have been super popular, and we’re having so much fun with them. There are currently two different class formats open to the public- one involves wine and one doesn’t. “Taste of Goo Goo” is more family friendly (no booze), so if you want to bring the kiddos along, this is the one for you.
If you’re looking for a friends’ excursion or a date activity, then check out “Secrets of Goo Goo”. Mother’s Day is just around the corner, so this class would be such a fun gift for your mom or wife! Full descriptions of both class formats can be found here. Also on that same page, you can find the full May class schedule. Tickets for all classes can be purchased online here.
Can’t make it to any of the dates we’ve got on the calendar, but have a birthday or special celebration coming up? You can even book a private chocolate experience! Feel free to reach out to me directly and I can answer any questions, or you can fill out the form found here and someone will get back to you with info.
