Tavern Opens in Midtown

In case you haven’t heard, there’s a new kid on the block in Midtown. In what seems like the blink of an eye, the owners closed the doors of Lime and have now opened the doors of  Tavern. The hope is that this new concept will be a better fit for a neighborhood that has steadily opened more and more sports bars and casual drinking joints in recent years. Billed as “Inspired Pub Cuisine and Libations”, Tavern is to me a perfect cross between its sister restaurants, Whiskey Kitchen and Virago. Upscale and hip, yet comfortable at the same time.

I was fortunate enough to be invited for a little sneak peek this weekend and based on that visit, give an enthusiastic thumbs up to the food, drinks and service. The grilled shishito peppers with sweet dipping sauce and my entree, the Scottish salmon with apple slaw and spicy red curry sauce, were both dishes that I could eat time and time again. In fact, as much as I look forward to going back and trying other menu items, it’s going to be really difficult not to order them!
