Restaurant Week Reminder!
I had a wonderful meal at F Scott’s on Tuesday night, and tonight I’m looking forward to visiting one of my old favorites, Yellow Porch. Reports have indicated that the pork chop I’m eyeing is a winner, so you better believe that’s what I’ll be feasting on tonight.
If you haven’t already, peruse all the menus, find one that appeals to you, then call to get a reservation before they’re all gone!
And for those of you that have been out on the town hitting up the Nashville Originals this week, let’s hear the scoop. Where have you gone, what have you eaten? Inquiring minds want to know!

Love Yellow Porch! Jealous.
Oh my goodness you guys….I just had such a fantastic meal at Yellow Porch. For some reason I always forget how warm and inviting the space is, but the minute I walked in, I was in love all over again. Cozy table in the corner, fantastic wine, followed by delicious food. Could not ask for more.
Here's what my friend and I had:
Salad: Port poached cherries with baby greens, spiced walnuts, goat cheese and balsamic vinaigrette.
Entrees: (Her) Curry Dusted Salmon w Ginger Scallion Jasmine Rice, Broccolini, a Shiitake and Crab Chai Broth, Cilantro Lime Sour Cream and Lentil Crackers
(Me) Sweet Tea Brined Pork Chop w Sweet Potato and Benton's Bacon Pancakes, Benne Beans, Apple Chutney, Sage Brown Butter and Balsamic Vinegar
Wow. $20 for those meals, plus a little extra for the wine- what a great deal!
Kim Totzke and I had dinner at Mirror on 12th Ave. so. Many things to choose from but I was in a vegetarian mood so I had the Acorn squash stuffed with lentils accompanied by sauteed mushrooms and a tomato coulis. The menu is $20.10 for three courses. Dessert was a tasting of five different desserts, all delicious. I can also sing the praises of the drink they call L'amour , a truly tasty adult beverage. Things got a little hazy after my 3rd or 4th L'Amour, hence the lack of detail on the finer points of the menu. Tonight I will pay a little more attention and will report back.
Eat up!
Terry
We ended up going to Cabana because we could not get in at our top 3 choices. We were pleasantly surprised! The young waiter was great, the house wine flight was inexpensive and decent, and the food was way better than I was expecting! We got a crawfish cake and the baked brie to start, and they were both executed very well. We got the pork tenderloin and the gnocchi, and surprisingly both were very tasty and we were both quite happy. We both had plenty of leftovers to take home for lunch the next day, and what a nice treat that was! And for dessert was bread pudding. I am not a dessert person, I am not a bread person, I don't like cake, so dessert was unnecessary for me. Plus the generous volume of food for the 1st 2 courses left me with very little room for dessert. It was well worth $20.10. There is one more day to catch Cabana!
I was amazed at the service from the young waiter at Cabana. In past restaurant weeks, service has been an issue because of the huge crowds, stress, exhaustion of the staff. In years past, it seemed that I was in an inconvenience to the restaurant and server's day. I learned from years past to not go to those places on Restaurant week because it is not a good deal for me there. BUT!! This Cabana young man taking care of us at Cabana was on top of his game taking care of us and all the other full tables around us. He really did a great job! I wish I could remember his name, and give him a shout out of Thanks!
We also hit Cabana last night. It was VERY busy, but we had reservations. We got the baked brie and the crawfish cake, the mahi mahi and the tenderloin, and the bread pudding. My mahi mahi was on the overcooked side, so much so that I had to really look close in the dim lighting and see if it might be chicken. But the grits and tasso ham cream sauce more than made up for it. We also had good service, though there was quite the lull in between courses, which ended up being fine since we had to finish our wine! I was pleased that we got full glasses of each wine. I thought that we might get half-glasses since it was such a good deal. We very much enjoyed ourselves last night, even though it was pretty loud and crowded.
We did Alium, Tayst, and Sunset. We took friends who had never been to Alium over on Tuesday night. Greg had a full house all evening. We had the herb crusted skate, the scallops and steak frites. Service, food, and wine were spot on as always. Thursday night we sat at the bar at Tayst. Had the liver and onions (lamb liver), the Foie Gras Torchon, Meatloaf, Fish (Drum) and the gingerbread for dessert. We really didn't do the 20.10 deal although the liver and meatloaf were on that tasting. Last night, we took a party of ten down to Sunset. I had the tasting menu of lamb meatballs and the braised short rib with oil poached red potatos and roasted winter root vegtables. The short rib was incredible. Seared perfectly and braised to just the point of being tender. My server forgot my meatballs so I didn't get those until after my entree, but otherwise it was a normal superb Sunset experience. Interesting point is we starting trying to get reservations on Weds for Friday and reservations were actually a little tough to get. I take that as a real good sign of a successful week.
