Von Elrod’s Opening ~ and a giveaway!

In last week’s October Happenings post, I mentioned the opening of Von Elrod’s Beer Garden & Sausage House and their plans for Oktoberfest, with a promise for more details to come. Well, here I am with more details!

First things first. While there are events planned for Oktoberfest at the restaurant, the “official” opening date is next Wednesday, October 11th. So, if you’re not interested in navigating the crowds in Germantown this weekend, you don’t have to wait long before you can drop into the new place and check it out.

And believe me, there’s a lot to check out. Partners Austin Ray of A.Ray Hospitality (M.L. Rose, Sutler) and Chef Jason Brumm (former chef owner of Radius 10 – one of my favorites! Who remembers it?) have combined their love of beer and sausage and brought Nashville the first true beer garden concept. Housed in a historic building across from First Tennessee park that once served as the bus depot Trailblazer Station, Von Elrod’s has 500 seats spread throughout a full service dining room, covered patio, and beer garden.

They’ll be cranking out 15 fresh, house-made sausages with the whole process on display through a window on the main dining room. All of the sausages, made with meat from local and regional suppliers, will be cooked over hardwood charcoal fire, then topped with creative toppings.

And this is where they got me. Toppings, sauces, and dips are my jam. You know I’m all about some bold, inventive flavors, and you’ll find that here. Over the last few months, I’ve had the opportunity to sample several menu items from Von Elrod’s at special events and tastings, and been impressed with every single thing I’ve tried. Even the hot dog! Seriously, you’ve never had a hot dog like this.

Not a sausage fan? Never fear. You’ll also find rotisserie chicken, deviled eggs (!), salads, Belgian fries, and fresh-baked pretzels on the menu. Oh, and for those pretzels, take my advice and slather on that magic butter. And the cheese. You can thank me later.

And last, but certainly not least – the booze! Von Elrod’s has 36 beers and six wines on tap, two rotating frozen cocktails, and a shandy program featuring housemade lemonades. Basically, they’ve gotcha covered.

Now about that Oktoberfest event. This past weekend they actually ended ticket presales because they want to allow for a number of walk-ins in the dining room. These will be available on a first come, first served basis, so arriving early is encouraged. For more information on the event, you can see my blog post from last week, or visit Von Elrod’s website.

But- guess what? Because I’m so excited about this opening, my friends at Von Elrod’s have been kind enough to provide 2 Tickets to any seating on Friday or Saturday of Okotoberfest to one of my awesome readers! As a reminder, here is what is included with a ticket:

– Reserved seating at large communal-style tables or bar seats during your selected seating time
– Von Elrod’s sausages, house-baked pretzels, traditional Oktoberfest fare, sides and sweets, served buffet-style
– A commemorative Von Elrod’s Oktoberfest stein
– Entertainment, songs, contests, and games
– Dedicated service staff
– Air conditioning and bathrooms away from the crowds!
