On My Radar – Restaurant Openings
Lots of exciting happenings on the Nashville dining scene right now!
Opening last week was the new Germantown Cafe East in the old Allium spot in East Nashville. I was lucky enough to get an invite to a Friends & Family pre-opening dinner service, so my friends and I got to sample several things off the menu.
Our favorite dish, and the one we practically licked clean, was the Gnocchi. One item we didn’t get to try but I’m certainly looking forward to going back and ordering soon is the sirloin steak with with bacon- cheddar bread pudding. Swoon.
Last week also saw the return of what had become a favorite of mine – Table 3 in Green Hills. You may remember a post I wrote about it earlier this year when a fire shut it down after being open for only a couple of months. Now it’s back and (I’ve heard) is better than ever. Fingers crossed that I can find time in my schedule this week to fit in a lunch or dinner there because I am in need of some of that amazing cassoulet!
Coming Soon on 12 South
I grow increasingly jealous of my friends who live within walking distance of the 12 South area. They already have some awesome eating, drinking and shopping options, and very soon, they’ll be gaining three more places to chow down.
From the owner and chef of Tayst restaurant, Jeremy Barlow, comes Sloco: “Sandwiches. Local. Organic. Quick.” Housed in the same space that has served as Greenlight Market and then most recently LB’s Market House, Sloco will be a sandwich shop focusing on sustainable organic food.
A quick scan of their Facebook page shows that the menu is complete and contains a little bit of something for everyone. Vegan Meatball, Roasted Veggie, Redneck Reuben, and Pesto Chicken are just a few of the sandwiches that caught my eye.
For a while, all I’ve known about this place is that it’s going into an old car wash on 12 South. Now I’ve found a Facebook page that gives a few more clues, like the tagline “Fish Pit and Southern Cantina”. I’m intrigued. If you are too, follow along there so you can be the first to know all the details!
I’ve been watching this building at the corner of 12th and Halcyon take shape for a few months. According to their Facebook page, “Edley’s Bar-B-Que will unite the Nashville tradition of meat and three restaurants with the best barbecue this side of the Mississippi.”
The family friendly joint will serve smoked pork, chicken, turkey, ribs, and wings, as well as fried shrimp and catfish sandwiches and made-fresh-daily Southern sides.
Jeremy, if you are reading, I’d love to see your house-made seitan on the menu at Sloco. It’s fantastic!
Thanks for the update Beth…I knew these places were coming to the ‘hood but didn’t know all the details on UG and Egley’s…thanks for the info!
Beth, we were at Germantown East also, I drew the sirloin and it was amazing!!! Hubby had the duck and we all agreed-BEST at our table. Went back from brunch yesterday, decided we will make that our once a month treat!
So jealous of you!!! I wanted both the duck and the steak, but sadly we didn’t draw either. Oh well, that just means I need to convince hubby to take me back there soon and we’ll order both :-)
Oh big surprise, Beth loved the gnocchi! LOL
Thanks for the heads up, I didn’t know about a lot of these!
I agree with Leslie about the seitan! I don’t think anywhere in town serves home made seitan! It’s funny how I can adore Tayst despite their meat heavy menu. Jeremy’s got it going on though…
Table 3 changed their menu. I liked the restaurant previously-to a point…they serve foie gras, veal and duck fat garnished items which isn’t my thing…but the new menu is very meat heavy. I don’t think I’ll go back in there honestly. Plus, I know someone who works in the kitchen and the sous chef (Genevieve) pulls recipes off the internet for everything that needs to be made. I can do that myself, restaurants should definitely come up with their own menus in my opinion.
Ugh, really? I hate to hear that. They had a few dishes before that I really loved, so I was hoping it would still be the same. Shocked that they pull recipes from the internet!!
oh wow! Glad I stopped by. Would love to try out SLOCO :)
Thanks Beth!
