How many of you have had the pleasure of eating one of the many marvelous cheeses from The Bloomy Rind this year? I’m currently noshing on some Browning Gold myself and looking forward to my next hunk of Barely Buzzed. Cheese, glorious cheese.
If you haven’t met Kathleen and sampled some of her wares, you’re really missing out. Why, the Nashville Scene writers even proclaimed The Bloomy Rind the “Best News for Cheese Lovers” in this year’s “Best of” issue.
As the year rolls to a close, Kathleen thought it’d be nice to allow one of my lovely local readers to sample a wide variety of her goods. Well, not just sample really…downright devour. So you know what that means? It’s giveaway time!
The prize? A cheese plate, built to your taste! Ya know, custom like. Start by choosing three or four of your favorite cheeses, then add in some fabulous accompaniments, all of which will be served up on a super cool contemporary CB2 platter. (total $60 value)
Perhaps you’d like a Southern Cheese themed plate that includes Sequatchie Cove Cumberland, a semi-soft charmer from the Chattanooga area; Chapel Hill Creamery Carolina Moon, a Camembert-style cheese at it’s buttery best; and Blackberry Farm Blue, a well-balanced blue with a lovely fudgelike texture.
Or maybe you prefer something a little stinkier like Rogue Creamery’s Echo Mountain Blue, a robust, earthy blue made from cow’s and goat’s milk for a little extra oomph. Or you could go with the cheesemonger’s choice, the Cobb Hill Cheese’s Ascutney Mountain, which could easily be the love child of an aged gouda and an aged cheddar – complete with those little crystals we adore so much.
Well, you get the idea. Kathleen will listen to what you love and create a dreamy cheese plate just for you!

There are so many to choose from! I’d love to try out the Dunbarton Blue, Aggiano Parm, Cabot Cheddar and Unitah Jack! The accompaniments sound delicious too….especially the olive mix and chocolate. I’ve been dying to try Olive and Sinclair chocolate.
Kelly — December 29, 2010 @ 8:23 am
My ultimate cheese plate would include a soft cheese like brie or camembert and definitely some goat cheese. Some gouda. And I’d love to try the barely buzzed from Bloomy Rind and have the sea salt honey cheese again I tried once.

OMG that Southern Cheese themed plate sounds amazing. Yum!
sofia — December 29, 2010 @ 9:04 am
wow, is this a loaded question or what! let’s see. at twelve o’clock, we’d start with some purple haze goat cheese to get things rollin’ on a smooth start. then at three we’d have a sharp and intense roquefort, to keep ya on yer toes. then at six, i’m going with cabot clothbound cheddar to balance things out in a sharp and pleasant kind of way. at 9, i’d go for a silky fresh mozzarella, and then back to twelve i’d be sure to go around the cheese-plate-clock again, but would certainly take a sip of pinot noir and another sip of champagne, for good measure. and maybe some bites of crusty bread, too.

I never met a cheese I didn’t like and haven’t had a chance to make it on Kathleen’s market days. I think my dream cheese plate would be made up of small production cheeses I’m not likely to find at the grocery…a mix of cow, goat, and sheep’s milk cheeses…some stinky, some creamy. I’m completely open to whatever!!!
Liz — December 29, 2010 @ 10:10 am

Maggie — December 29, 2010 @ 10:22 am
We’ve never tried a cheese from Bloomy Rind that we didn’t like, so it’s hard to choose a dream plate, any plate would be a dream plate! If I had to narrow it down to our favorites though, I would have to include the Blackberry Farm Blue for my husband, the Carolina Moon or O’Banon for myself and either the Seahive or the Butter Bound for the nine year old.
Also, already a fan on Facebook!
Lauren B — December 29, 2010 @ 10:23 am
i’d love something fresh like the Blackberry Farm Brebis. I am addicted to the Cobb Hill Ascutney Mt. I’d eat anything blue, stinky, or triple creme. I’d eat anything from the Utah creamery where Barely Buzzed comes from – fantastic cheese.
I’m a big fan of Kathleen’s on FB and am off to tweet right now.
Amanda — December 29, 2010 @ 10:45 am

I would follow the lead of the expert in choosing from what is currently available. However, I would begin by saying that my family deeply appreciates stinky cheeses and runny cheeses… And strong cheeses that can be served with thinly sliced sweet onions. And hard cheeses that can be served with tart or peppery jam. Nothing mild for this bunch…

Crystal — December 29, 2010 @ 8:33 pm
I’ve been a quiet fan of Kathleen for a long time, already a FB follower. I love getting to try out the unusual tastes and small batch cheeses she has. I’ve learned about Barely Buzzed, the Browning Gold, Cabot Clothbound(esp with Terrapin Moo Hoo) and the awesome fresh Sheeps’ milk fresh cheese from Blackberry Farm at the end of this season. I would let Kathleen pick for the basket since that’s just the opportunity to try even more diverse tastes. I enjoy the adventure of her cheeses and tasting things I’d never know to find on my own. Her business card was on my fridge long before she was online.
Jeff — December 29, 2010 @ 9:25 pm
My ultimate cheese plate would have equal representation from hard cheeses (I love a good Grana Padano), soft (who can resist Brie and all her cousins?) and crumbly (I’m partial to the bacterial goodness of the Blues). Endless cheesy possibilities is right! From Kathleen’s blog I followed a link to the Calf and Kid and found “sin on a plate”. So a gorgeous brie wrapped in my home cured bacon is already on our NYE menu. An aged gouda is a must and something new and exciting that Kathleen recommends would round it out beautifully. An olive mix and some onion jam and we’ll be ringing in the new year with style- something tasty and local!

I am a fan of Eat. Drink. Smile. and The Bloomy Rind on Facebook… so this is a trifecta of sorts for me. Whee! I am envisioning a nice Gouda… with some Dubliner, a sharp Cheddar, a sprinklin’ of Blue Cheese crumbles and a smidge of Feta. Stop and sip the Pinot. Then, we’d have a thick, savory slice of Gouda, placed right next to a nice bowl of big fat black olives, hummus and pita chips. Stop again and sip the Chardonnay. I’m smilin’ already!

I don’t know which specific cheeses I’d pick, but what I’d really like would be a selection of local/regional cheeses to help me become more familiar with what’s being produced nearby (minus blue cheese because I’m not a huge fan). I know some of the options, but I’d love to explore more beyond local goat cheese & Kenny’s various options from KY.

I really want some fine cheese! This past year our income was cut in half & we no longer get to buy specialty cheeses. This would be such a nice indulgence as WE ARE OBSESSED WITH CHEESE.
Happy New Year!

The cheeses I want are hard, soft, creamy, smoked, blue and white!! :) YUM CHEESE!
ricejen — December 30, 2010 @ 3:30 pm
I would definitely fill my cheese plate with barely buzzed and seahive……I’m not sure if there would be room for anything else!
ricejen — December 30, 2010 @ 3:30 pm
and PS I also tweeted for a second entry :-) Did I mention how much I LOVE the bloomy rind?!??!?!
Malinda — December 30, 2010 @ 3:34 pm
LOVE the Bloomy Rind. Ringing in the New Year with a glass of bubbly and a platter of their clothbound cheddar, Rogue blue (heavenly), Kalamata olives and some nice salami would be delightful. Thanks for this opportunity.

Liked them on FB too!

We followed Kathleen to the ends of the earth (well, Nashville ) when she was “out and about”. I must say that I’m in LOVE with Butterbound, Sehive, Barely Buzzed (try it carmelized like at Tayst), and any Blue she has. Kathleen has given me hope that Nashville does have a pallette. Good luck in 2011, and bring on the cheese and Salumi.

Oh wow Tom, caramelized Barely Buzzed?!? I’m heading to the market tomorrow to pick some up for my NYE party and just might have to serve it that way!

I think I’d need a lot of help putting together a great cheese plate. Though I know there would be a bowl of olives next to it. This is a great giveaway.
Lisa — December 30, 2010 @ 6:36 pm
Since I haven’t had the opportunity to try any of these I’d be OK with whatever she would like to send my way….. veering away from anything blue though.
Lisa — December 30, 2010 @ 6:36 pm
You have been tweeted.

Yum ! What a great giveaway – as far as cheese goes, the stinkier the better and a little red wine on the side!
Barbara Keith — December 30, 2010 @ 6:43 pm
I am a seldom tweeter but I did tweeted it!
